the science and art of medical acupuncture
|
|
I don't want to feel at the mercy of the now-vulnerable body, the body that was once invulnerable. I think that my embracing acupuncture and its effects represents a response to those changes. I feel that in middle age I can see things with fewer delusions. I recognize that I'm not invulnerable, I'm not immortal. In acupuncture I never think of myself as a patient. I feel like I'm a partner in this process. I can help the process along with how I take care of myself, or I could jam it up if I wanted to. It takes a different level of commitment to be an acupuncture patient. [p30]
