Live Well - Berkeley Medical Acupuncture - Joseph Helms, MD & Aram Mardian, MD
the science and art of medical acupuncture

When I got here, somehow I knew this was the right place.  I had already been to the university medical center, and they made me feel like I was just a lamb to the slaughter. I felt you perceived the whole of me, that you saw the many symptoms as making sense. In fact, you elicited these things from me, not just tolerated my tail.  I knew on an intuitive level acupuncture might be of great value to me.

I can remember saying to you in an early interview when you ask about my emotional state, that I can get depressed, not a depressive personality, but that I can get depressed.  I am fascinated by this approach that can group these families of symptoms just through talking and observation.  Most of the doctors I have seen are strict scientists, not artists or healers.

The needles certainly sped up my recovery after surgery.  When I had the bladder repair you needled the incision when I got out of the hospital.  I've never seen anything heal so fast.  Flat, no raised scar tissue, no pain at the incision. [p12,65,79]
